Popular for many years as a way for working holiday visa travelers to get "second year time", the Australian government announced that 2nd year visa's approval will require pay slips to prove rural work from the 31st August 2015.While this has taken the shine off WWOOFing, it is still a large network of farms large and small that will take on workers in exchange for accommodation and food.
It is typical that workers / volunteers will have to work up to 8 hours a day in exchange for the accomm / food package.
Anecdotes of WWOOFing that are a little off colour include long days in the sun, WWOOFing hosts going naked, and WWOOFing staff used to clean holiday accommodation instead of looking after organic farms.
On the positive side, there is a wealth of knowledge, people living off the land, good food and life experience on offer with WWOOFing farms bun by good people.
Joining is just $70 and comes with App, PDF guide or app.
Extra tip: If would like to avoid the cost, you might find a working holiday traveler leaving Australia that has an account / book that they are willing to hand over.
