Dumpster dive
Due to regulation, insurance and company policy it is very common for food to thrown in the bin at the of the day. This applies equally well to prepared foods and packaged items that have simply past their "use by date".
If you have little shame, you can often find items at or just after their used by date.
This is not a recommendation, but it is known to frequently to occur. Certain people live by it.
Using a healthy amount of care and targeting for such things as biscuits, you are likely to stay out of hospital.
