Antifoul is best on the hull, not in the tin!

Mon 31 Mar 2008
Having a 1/2 tin of antifoul rolling around the bilges is something that annoys all cruising sailors. Antifoul is works best on the hull, as painted on its there to flake off as the little crusties, barnacles and other ocean born grubs try to latch on. In the tin it.... weighs the boat down.

With a small tide in play today and a low about midday it was the opportune time to slide onto Dugong Beach, Cid Harbour and throw on the foul. It worked nicely. Greater powers took the boat around some oyster rocks and padded on a semi-flat shoal of shell debris. To avoid the toxins of the anti-foul, the Powerdive hooker was engaged to supply clean air from above decks, gloves on hands ... and try not to get on ya'.

It was all completed in a reasonable time to meet the arrival of new cruising friends Bob and Carol from UK and NZ. It was lovely to chat with some other people that had made it here. Investment property had been the key.

With all that done, there was a flooding tide that shifted us off at 6pm just in time for one of the most magical sunsets on record.
