Iban village, Serian, Sarawak, Malaysia

Fri 07 Jun 2013
At the invitation of some very nice hosts, we ventured into the rainforest to stay at this Iban (Malay native) village. The family there could not be nicer, and hosted in a fabulous way.

Many thanks for Franky for organising the trip and interpreting for me, making the journey informative and very interesting.

The locals are being displaced from their land by the logging of the rainforest timber, completely clearing the land, and the replacement with Oil Palm plantation.

Taken away:
  Rainforest
  Clean water
  Wildlife
  Local Natives
  Diversity
  Orangutans

Replaced with
  Palm oil plantation
  Fetilisers
  Pesticides
