Gruyeres crawl

Invited to tour the locale, it was off to see the surrounds of Lausanne.

Starting with a picnic on the shores of the lake, the flowers were in full summer bloom and people enjoyed time in the shade of the tree lined shore.

Our boat was an old paddlesteamer, restored to its original which was quite impressive and made it a very picturesque foreground for photos on a perfect blue sky day.

Traveling to the Eastern end of the lake, we boarded a train that wound its way to the lofty heights overlooking the lake for some amazing views before crossing into the countryside.

Intersecting with another train service, we made our way to the home of Swiss cheese, Gruyeres. An easy walk up the hill to the town lead into the town centre. Slightly diamond shaped and sloping to the centre and fountain it makes for wonderful photos and an even better panoramic.

Tourist meandered, and the sun shone.

Fondue and Roclette where the obvious options for meals in the many restaurants. Roclette for one person was more than enough for two... Gerkins, potatoes, pickled onions with cheese melted on.... hardy winter food perfect for cold winters indoors for these mountain folk.

Its a great day trip and a perfect thing to do with the day Swiss rail pass in hand (which includes boat trips in the one fee). Given a couple more hours, Dinner in Zurich could have been on the cards, but after a big cheese supper - I think not!
