Around Geneva
Fri 26 Jul 2013Summer was in full swing when I got to Geneva. Out and about I was keen to see the UN headquarters, which you can only see from a distance. Along the way you saw the who's who of organisations. UNICEF, WHO, Save the Children, Red Cross, etc, etc.
The number expats in Geneva means that the joke is to find a real one.
Despite this, the city has an ancient history.
Over time the originals lived along the lake (below its current level), then a strong group leadership fortified and re-fortified the city into something amazing in defensive architecture. Quite incredible to see models of the way it was.
Eventually peace was obvious and the need for the city to grow saw the extensive wall system dismantled and the lands settled upon. Industrious lot back in the day.
Along the way, they raised the level of the lake by controlling the flow of water out of the lake.
Quite hot, and a beer in the park was 7 Francs (AUD 8)
