Just keep flying...
Tue 13 Jan 2009
Leaving the warmth, beauty and sunshine of Phuket, I found myself on the way to Bangkok for the long leg to Rome. Having had a big one the night before, I knew there would be no problems sleeping. Having watched "The usual suspects" 1/2 thru for the second time, I thought that the Rome hop would have the in seat screens, but the 747 in question was definitely a tad old for this... not worry. I found myself settling into my seat with 1 vacant next. The Italian couple in the next two to complete the mid plane 4 looked a little agitated for some reason... Bombers perhaps, no, they skipped to a vacant window three, leaving me with the entire 4!
For anyone that has done long internation flights, you would know that I had just hit the jackpot. My 11 hour flight was going to include a full length bed, so nest I did. The set of blankies and pillows soon found themselves positioned and the arm rests aloft. For a fraction of the first class seat I was not stretched and ready to catch up on the night lost before. Several meals and rest stops later, was was wakened to the notice that in 5 minutes we would start descending into Rome! "No No" I yelled in silence, "Just keep flying! This is the best sleep I have ever enjoyed".
O well, in theory, I would have a kerb side welcome from a long ago sailing friend awaiting me. I was not to be disappointed.
