The best couch in the world

Sun 03 May 2009
Having slept for just 4 hours after a night of dancing at Wintermoon, its was wheels up and back to Airlie. Shortly after pinching the Cumberland Charter Yachts, Perry 445p luxury power cat we were on our way to Hamilton Island for 4 days of Best job in the world mania. ChannelWhitsunday.com is media accrediated to cover the best job in the world final selection event and we are going to make the most of it!

On board today is Christina as my side kick, her sister Denise (techo capacty). James and Danielle (inside connections) and Chris Roach, round the world cyclist and Couch Surfing that made the mistake of requesting some coach sailing... what a ride we have in store for him!

ChannelWhitsunday.com for the best of the coverage of the event.

Meanwhile, its now Wednesday, 5.30pm with nothing left to do but the after party with fireworks later tonight.

The ride has been wonderful, surfing the wave created by riding with the Best job in the world top 16 applicants. Media, big and small were in tow as well, and it was great to see that we weren't the dodgiest outfit in the pack... some one man bands with wrist strapped handy cams were side by side with us.... No tripod - what you thinking man!

... and proud we are, launching over 50 minutes of coverage in the 4 days, we probably get the award for that one, and a massive 35 minutes in just one day as I tried to get interviews with all the applicants and load them direct. Got through 12 of the 16 before I ran out of puff.

We otherwise show pony'd, unfolding the notebook and connecting via Telstra Next G at every opportunity to do some video editing and uploading. It was great to see some of the pros acknowledging how handy we were, handycams, mid quality stills and notebooks shunting footage, while we sipped cocktails at Daydream island. Some other crazy upload situations included the expensive lunch at Hayman, on the transfer ferries from island from island, and at the annoucement function.

Amazing team I had. With Christina called back to work and damaged boyfriend, Chris, the cycle fiend and Denise stepped into the breach. Having known them for 4 days total they excelled at eating, drinking and enjoying being in the media pack to max. Chris is a couch surfer, so I guess he won the "Best couch in the world award" as he has slummed it with chocolate fountains, lux boat rides, lobster, outer reef sub rides and for his penence had to push the record button occassionally... Only joking, the Denise and Chris did extremely well at the final function, Denise got a great shot of Ben (UK) crying into the phone to his girlfriend and Chris became of master pan and zoom! : )

So this adventure ends and now its time to party!
